Short answers, in the order people need them.
- Someone invited me. What do I do?
- Open the link in their email and you will see who invited you, which Home it is, and what they wrote. Accepting asks you to make an account so the memories stay yours and nobody else can read them from your inbox. Joining a Home is free and never charges you. If the link says it has expired, ask the sender for a new one — it is one tap for them under Our family → Invite family. More on invitations.
- What is a “Home”?
- A Home is one household's private place: its people, its memories, its calendar. Most families have more than one — your house, your parents' house, a co-parent's house. One account can belong to as many Homes as you actually belong to, and you can create one of your own even if you joined someone else's first.
- Who sees what is in a Home?
- Members of a Home see the memories shared with that Home. Each memory also has its own audience, so one can be narrower: "Only me" is seen by nobody else at all, not even the people who run the Home, and "Specific people" reaches only the people named. Being a member never means seeing everything.
- What is the difference between a member and someone who runs a Home?
- Everyone in a Home is a member and sees what is shared with it. Owners and admins also invite and remove people, change the banner, and tidy up. Viewers can look and react but not add memories. Only an owner can ever choose a paid plan for the Home.
- What is a “connection”?
- A connection says two Homes are family to each other, so they can share memories with each other on purpose. It grants nothing by itself: nobody in the other Home can see your memories until you add their Home to a memory's audience, one memory at a time. To make one, invite relatives to start their own Home from Our family; if they already run a Home, they connect that instead.
- Should my relatives join my Home or have their own?
- Either. A Home is usually one household, so a partner or a child at home joins yours. Grandparents, a co-parent, or a sibling's family often keep a Home of their own and connect it with yours. Nothing is lost either way: a person can belong to several Homes.
- What is a “gathering”?
- Anything you would put on the fridge calendar: a birthday, a Sunday dinner, a trip. People say whether they are coming, and you can keep a list of who is bringing what.
- Who can see what I post?
- Whoever you choose, every single time. The audience sits at the bottom of the box while you write it and says so in plain words — "Visible to The Maw Home" — and it is confirmed again once the memory is published. You can change it afterwards from the memory itself. Being related to you never means being able to see.
- I deleted something by mistake.
- Deleted memories wait in Recently removed for 30 days before they are really gone. Open the memories page, choose Recently removed, and put it back.
- Do I have to add a photo?
- No. A sentence on its own is a memory too. Photos and video are optional.
- How much room do I get, and who pays?
- Every Home starts on Free with 5 GB, which is a few thousand photos, and no card is needed. If a Home fills up, its owner can choose the Family plan at $19.99 a month for 250 GB. Joining someone else's Home never costs anything. Running out never deletes anything — it only stops new uploads until there is room.
- A photo would not upload.
- Try it once more first; most upload failures are a dropped connection and the same file works on a second try. If it keeps failing, the file may be a format we cannot read yet (HEIC from some iPhones is the usual culprit) — sending it as JPEG works. Still stuck? Write to us.
- Can I get my things out?
- Yes, whenever you like, without asking anyone. Settings → Export packages everything you authored into a single download.
